I cooked some spaghetti for dinner and got out the jug of Arizona when a call came. My parents: We will be home in 30 minutes and then we will go out to eat! Don’t eat dinner! Me: Okay. I looked at the spaghetti. And the Arizona I poured. AND DRANK AND ATE IT ALL HAHAHAHAHA REBELLIONNNN

Lists to remember
While thinking of a way to get 7 people somewhere efficiently, I realized we didn’t have a nice big van anymore. Then I realized the reason we don’t have or need a nice big van anymore is because Yining is married to David now. I know she got married in August. And I’ve seen the pictures, saw them do a ton of couply things, stayed over at their place, gotten to know David, but I...

choijoy: I was out with my mom this afternoon when all of a sudden I got a call from Mrs. Robledo. My initial reaction was OH SHIT, THIS CAN’T BE GOOD. BUT IT WAS GOOD! IT WAS SO AWESOME :D I was kind of yelping in the middle of the store, hehe. We’re CSPA Crown finalists! I honestly didn’t believe…

so be kind.
Over the past semester, I heard from a few different people about how people thought I was cool and wanted to be my friend but were scared or something. It made me feel strange and sad because people were mean to me in middle school. I was an outcast. It was partly my fault because I didn’t want to seem presumptuous and upfront. But everyday during lunch I sat somewhere and read. I felt...

I’m sure this has happened to you before, when one day you think of you a few years ago or less and realize that’s not you anymore. The transition is so gradual and unclear, but it was there. Usually it’s about a year or more until I feel that, but strangely this time it’s only been 4 months this time. The main difference seems to be that I have lost fear of many things....

I’ve been challenging myself more and more to do things that make myself uncomfortable, but I think are for the better. I try to say hello to people, know people’s names, and talk to them. Strangers at school, no. Strangers on the street, yes. And people I know at school. I think it makes people feel a little better. But about a fourth of the time I am unnoticed because I am not loud...

Occupy
I really appreciate what the majority of occupiers seem to be promoting (I’m going to take from this article here. I modified it heavily, but it’s still worth directing you to that article.): Getting the money out of politics, reforming the banking system to prevent fraud and manipulation by separating investment banks from commercial banks, and drafting laws against the loophole that...

robertreich: Most political analysis of America’s awful economy focuses on whether it will doom President Obama’s reelection or cause Congress to turn toward one party or the other. These are important questions, but we should really be looking at the deeper problems with which whoever wins in 2012… “In political terms, both [Occupy and the Tea Party] are deeply suspicious...

mysteries of the brain
Ever since I was little and my parents forced me to eat McDonald’s chicken nuggets and Chinese pork-chive dumplings as a child, I was certain I hated McDonald’s chicken nuggets and dumplings and chives. I still hate the chicken nuggets. But recently I ate a pork chive dumpling and a wave of nostalgia hit me. It was so weird. But it felt good. Eating them with that processed taste,...

Not just distance
Kids tend to become friends by accident. Like in kindergarten (or 8th grade…) when people become friends just because they happened to sit next to each other in math and were the same height or both Korean or something. That’s definitely not a bad thing, but I feel like people rarely take initiative to cultivate friendships and just let it happen. Not that I would expect too many...
